John Waddy Bullion is my "writer name". It is also conveniently my legal name. I use it because it makes me sound cool and Southern, even though I am neither of those things. I grew up in Columbia, Missouri, which is a Midwestern college town. Then I moved down to Texas for college (Fort Worth), grad school (San Marcos), and more grad school (Denton). Now I live in Fort Worth with my wife and two daughters.
My writing has appeared in BULL, HAD, the Texas Review, Maudlin House, Hunger Mountain, and Vol 1. Brooklyn, among other fine places.
My first collection of short stories, This World Will Never Run Out of Strangers, will be published by Cowboy Jamboree in November 2025.
I also cohost the Sprawlmaggedon: Tantalizing Texas Towns podcast, where me and some buddies get together on a completely random basis to rate and review Texas towns. You can find episodes of the pod here.
